Our Menu

A piece of friendly advice: when you come to the Hofbräuhaus, come hungry.

Welcome to Hofbräuhaus, Melbourne’s most iconic and maybe best German restaurant (according to critics on Zomato, Tripadvisor, Quandoo, The fork). But try it yourself!

Dankeschön for over 50 years! We are overwhelmed and grateful to have such a long history and friendly guests who helped us becoming one of Melbourne’s best German restaurants. We would like to thank all of our lovely customers who have enjoyed the true Bavarian experience in the heart of Chinatown! Let there be at least another 50 years to come! – The Hofbräuhaus Family.

Have a look on our new monthly special menu! Find it here.

We at Hofbräuhaus want to bring you an authentic Bavarian experience with good and freshly cooked food, imported Bavarian Bier and a Bavarian good time. As a German restaurant we are famous for our pork knuckle, freshly crumbed Schnitzel and our delicious sausages, but the German cuisine has much more to offer. Our new monthly special menu is created by our Chef who recently returned from a “food journey” back home in Bavaria. So we can bring you an even bigger range of authentic German food.  Our new special menu will change every month and offers delicacies like Bier infused food, venison, rabbit but also hearty classic dishes such as Kaiserschmarrn (a historical pancake incident), Zwiebelrostbraten (eye fillet with a hearty onion jus) or Rinderrouladen (gherkin, mustard and bacon covered in a beef roulade).

A German restaurant in the heart of Chinatown

As proud and true Bavarians, we serve hearty German food, including the best Schnitzel in Melbourne and one of the oldest German restaurant outside Europe!

The Hofbräuhaus is known for its classic traditional pork, beef and poultry dishes, rich in flavour, created from old family recipes. Complemented by our wide range of traditional side dishes such as dumplings, spätzle and sauerkraut. Rich fare, generously served.

Now, if you’re a just little more ravenous than usual, you may wish to line up for the Hofbräuhaus Schnitzel Challenge, (which must be booked in advance!) The Schnitzel Challenge is a truly Olympian triathlon:
1.5kg pork schnitzel, a large-ish bowl of chips and 1Ltiter of Bier from the tap. If you manage to demolish all of it – by yourself, no sharing! – we give you the schnitzel, the chips, the Bier and a wear-it-with-pride winner’s t-shirt for free.

German food is more than just meat

So far, our story’s been very, very meaty – but, truly, many of our best friends are vegetarians. Yes, even though we are a German restaurant we do love vegetables as well. Bier for example is a pretty delicious and vegan.
Why should carnivores have all the fun? Along with our special super salad of the day, we can offer you our exquisite Käsespätzle – house-made egg noodles baked with herbs, spinach and Swiss cheese, served with a crisp side salad. Yum!

If it’s a satisfying weekday lunch you’re after but on a tight budget, take advantage of our lunch specials (starting from $13.50)! Upgrade your lunch with any lunch special + a 300ml Bavarian Bier for only $19. Full of our most popular dishes – it is excellent value! In a hurry? Ask about pre-ordering our German food.
