German Carnival (Fasching)

Fasching (also known as Karneval or Fastnacht) is Germany’s most colourful celebration of the year. It takes place right before Lent — the traditional Christian period of fasting, when people give up indulgences like rich food, alcohol, sweets or other luxuries for 40 days leading up to Easter. Imagine Carnival, Mardi Gras, and Oktoberfest had a very loud, very fun German baby. That baby is Fasching 🎭🍺

So before the fasting begins… Germans celebrate properly.

Think costumes, music, laughter, dancing, clinking Bier steins and a joyful goodbye to seriousness. And this year, we’re bringing it to Melbourne with two special Fasching events in our Bierhall.

Wirtshaus Fasching (Adults only)

20th February | From 7pm | Upstairs Bierhall
Free Event | Bookings Recommended

Get dressed up (the more outrageous, the better) and receive a free schnaps on arrival to kick off the night.

Then eat, drink and dance to authentic German Carnival music as our Bierhall transforms into a true Fasching party. Expect big energy, loud singalongs and plenty of “Helau!” moments.

It’s your official excuse to go all out before Lent begins.

Kids Carnival with Alle Munchkins

3–6pm | Bierhall
Tickets $6 — All proceeds donated to Alle Munchkins German Kids Playgroups

Fasching isn’t just for adults — it’s for families too. Join us for an afternoon of colour, costumes and carnival fun in partnership with our friends from Alle Munchkins.

Dress up, celebrate and enjoy a joyful kids’ carnival atmosphere — all while supporting German kids’ playgroups here in Melbourne.

Two events.
One tradition.
One last big celebration before 40 days of discipline begin.

Helau & Prost! 🥨🍻
